We are just back from our leisurely sojourn in India. Mostly our visits are limited to 2-3 weeks so our so called leisurely sojourn turns out to be a very busy one. Visiting all our kinsfolk, enjoying tempting bengali cuisines every house we visit and then there’s taking part in all rituals and festivals. Visiting India certainly makes you feel alive.
Amidst all these merry-making and visiting places, my mother-in-law planned on performing Satya-Narayan Pujo and this was our first Narayan pujo after marriage. It is a very common ritual in most Hindu houses and is performed for occasions like marriage, house-warming parties, success on job and is mainly believed to bring peace and prosperity in the house. From the early morning we started with all the ayojon(gathering ingredients). It was fun with all our family members gathering and helping with the pujo ayojon. The best part I like about the Satya-Narayan pujo is ‘Shinni’. It’s a recipe which includes wheat-flour, sugar, milk fruits banana and grated coconut and is offered to Narayan. After the pujo, this is given as prasad(food as a religious offering) and I am literally crazy about Shinni. I even prefer to hide some in a corner of the refrigerator for the next day, but didn’t plan on doing this in my in-laws house. 😉

Now comes the important part. Since we don’t wear traditionals quite often in US and generally wait for an occasion to wear saris , so the moment I get an chance here, I happily agree. I was excited to share my look for our Narayan pujo and hence the post.

Sweet my daughter
